If you've talked to me in the library, you know that I am a huge fan of movies and TV. Something else I'm very passionate about (and need to make an excuse to do more) is cooking & baking. I love trying new foods and recipes and sharing that with loved ones. With this blog series, you get to come along for the ride. So, let's dish!
While looking up upcoming monthly holidays for ideas, I saw that September is Better Breakfast month. I love breakfast food, so this seemed like a no-brainer.
In my hunt for breakfast cookbooks, I found Sunny-Side Up by former Cake Wars judge Waylynn Lucas. As you can probably guess, most recipes revolve around the egg.
Like most of the cookbooks I've reviewed so far, this one starts with a lot of great information: how to prep yourself for cooking, helpful kitchen tools, and tips on basic ingredients. I also really appreciate how encouraging the introduction is, reminding readers that you don't have to be born with great kitchen skills, it's something that can be learned.
For my recipe, I went with the Bacon, Tomato, and Cheddar Bread Pudding. I love bread pudding, especially a savory one.

I found the prep really easy, and since it's baked, the cooking is simple and mostly hands-off. There is more wait time, so it's not a good quick breakfast, but it's easy to bake while you work on other things. It also makes for really great leftovers. I made mine for dinner, "brinner" is one of my favorite things, and wrapped leftover pieces in foil. This made it incredibly easy to throw in my bag to bring to work.
This is another book I'm considering buying. I think a lot of the recipes look great. There's a nice variety of recipes, including a variety of skill levels. There are some classics and some more innovative recipe ideas. If you're a brunch kind of person, there are sweet and savory dishes plus some cocktail recipes. There is even a small section with menus for specific occasions, such as Mother's Day and Father's Day.
The one recipe I will probably make soon is the BLT French Toast Sandwich with Egg and Spicy Aioli. I love a good BLT and this is a fun twist using her Savory French Toast recipe.
