Family Time in Genealogy & Local History – Susan Dress
We’ve done some shifting in G&LH. All family histories have been given new call numbers and are now found together at the end of the G&LH shelves. You can search for them at idarupp.org/ catalog; set the search bar to Ida Rupp Public Library: All Fields: G&LH Family, for a list of all 28 books in our collection. These books cannot be checked out but are available to read at the library. Titles in the collection include:
· John George Babione family, 1793-1952
· The Benedicts: Christian Benedict (1829-1923), his ancestors, his American siblings and his children
· Descendants of the Bolte family
· Hasselbach family history, 1781-1962
· The New World bool of Reynolds/ Halbert’s Family Heritage
· Forty-one years of Ohio Wargowsky Reunion minutes
· The Winnie/Winne family of Ottawa County, Ohio
Shelved just below the family histories are three magazines from the Ohio Genealogical Societies. The Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly is sent to all members of the Ohio Genealogical Society. It publishes ‘condensed family histories, church, cemetery and court records, newspaper abstracts, Bible records and book notices’. The current issue features articles by the OGSQ writing contest winners; an article on the Stratford Cemetery (Delaware Ohio) restoration project; and a surname index with page numbers for location of those names in the magazine pages.
The Ohio Genealogy News is also published quarterly. The current issue has news on new archive records available to members; notice of the rebranding of the Huron County Chapter OGS as the Firelands Genealogical Society; book reviews; entry rules for the 2023 Ohio Genealogical Society Writing Contests; and articles from members on various research projects.
Marshland to Heartland is from the Ottawa County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, and contains ‘a combination of chapter news, genealogical helps, member contributions, and lists of surnames and stories from Ottawa County’s past’. The current issue features an article on Augusta (Pfeiffer) Graner Gulau, boarding house and hotel keeper in Oak Harbor Ohio. It also includes Ottawa County Obituary and Death Notice Index July 1, 2022, through Sept 30, 2022, and Burial Records from the City of Port Clinton for the same period.
These magazines are available for reading in the library, or to check out.
